About Gouves
Gouves is a small and very lovely region. It’s name means something like “a hollow in the earth”. Gouves is a stretch of lovely waterfront 18 km east of Heraklion. The region features a great selection of beaches and has everything you might need as restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, shopping areas, a medical center. Mountains, and various cultural and recreation activities are nearby.
There is Kato Gouves, which is the magnificent coastline, and then also the quiet village called Pano Gouves. Pano Gouves is on the slopes of Mt. Ederi, and has lovely views. When people just say Gouves, they generally mean the beachfront region where our apartments are located.
Sightseeing
Gouves is small enough to explore on foot. Local restaurants and authentic greek tavernas and bars are all within walking distance. So you can easily find other things to do in Gouves if you don’t want to spend every day on the beach.
If you want to venture beyond Gouves, you can easily take the public bus, or rent a buggy (i.e. quadbike) or scooter, or a car to explore its nearby towns. For clubs and more lively nightspots just head into nearby Hersonissos where you’ll find a much wider range of dance and nightclubs.
Beaches in Gouves
The Gouves Beach is long and covered by golden sand. It has a gradual entry into the sea, what is one of the reasons why the shallow water became a sought-after place among the families with small children as well as non-swimmers. Only during the period of the so-called Meltemi Winds bigger waves can appear on the beach.
Gouves Beach is fully equipped and offers its visitors enough sunbeds with umbrellas whereas the beach bars and the close traditional Greek tavernas are ensuring the refreshment. Also, various water sport possibilities are not missing on the beach.
